The twelve-monthly counting has already begun for 2024. We are already in February and the beehive of collaborative and developmental activities have fully resumed in the University. In this edition, the highlights of the news are academic activities and validation of development and synchronicity in the University.
Academic publication and research are not only sacrosanct but significant to the development of the university community and society in general. In this edition, we bring to you the news on the official presentation of a book authored by Prof. Mousa Oumar Keita, the Dean School of Postgraduate Studies, which would in no doubt increase the visibility and credibility of the author-scholar and the institution and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and understanding in the field. It's because of this significance that the Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University urged other faculty members and students of the University to prioritize research and publish their findings for continually making outputs that would invariably solve problems and educate people around the world. Also in this edition, we bring to you news on the visit of resource verification team from the University to Idriss Alooma Polytechnic, Geidam to assess the polytechnic's readiness for affiliation to commence postgraduate programmes.
Research and publication are also requisite for academic promotions. All members of academic and non-academic staff aspire for advancement in the form of promotion and growth in their respective fields. Concerning this, we bring the news of an interactive meeting between the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities Yobe State University Branch (ASUU-YSU)and the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, hosted by the Yobe State Commissioner for Higher Education, in which the former commended the latter for ensuring the prompt implementation of promotion benefits for members of staff promoted during the 2023 promotion exercise.
Another major news item is the concluded election of heads for the twenty-seven (27) departments in the university. This is commendable as democracy in the university fosters development, cohesion, and a sense of belonging. A democratic leadership encourages members of staff to take part in decision-making as regards the curriculum, faculty, and infrastructure for the general functioning of the departments and the university.
We conclude this edition on a sad note. We report the passing away of one of the non-academic members of staff of the university, who was killed by yetto-be-identified assailants. We join the Vice-Chancellor in condoling with her bereaved family and pray for her soul an eternal abode in the Jannat Firdaus.
Ameen.
